Determining Income and Allowances

Course Description

A fundamental component of using HOME funds effectively is ensuring that they are targeted to households who are eligible for assistance. HOME Program rules require that PJs use one of three definitions for annual income to determine the eligibility of applicants to their programs. This seminar will review the three definitions of income used in the HOME Program and provide guidance on how PJs can ensure they are targeting eligible households. This seminar covers determining income and allowances, including rules on income limits and income recertification. This course solely focuses on income determinations and will not cover more technical aspects of the HOME program related to rental housing such as setting rents, maintaining unit mix, etc. After attending this course, participants are encouraged to register for the Rental Housing Compliance course which will cover these more technical areas in detail.

Who Should Attend

PJ and CHDO or other HOME-eligible nonprofit staff should attend this class. This is a basic, foundation course.
