Community Planning and Development Training

Welcome to the Community Planning and Development Training Website, sponsored by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), Office of Community Planning and Development (CPD). The website includes information on over two dozen courses designed to share information with community development professionals, HUD staff, and other stakeholders as they work together to improve and renew America’s communities. HUD’s Office of Affordable Housing (OAHP) and HUD’s Office of Block Grant Assistance (OBGA) invite you to register to attend workshops on the following CPD programs:

OBGA is pleased to offer a series of locally-based problem solving clinics on implementing the NSP program and a national conference on the NSP2 program. The clinics will be targeted to the needs of individual housing markets and are thus open to grantees and their nonprofit, developer and lender partners from each local market area. The problem solving clinics will offer one-on-one appointments with HUD and technical assistance provider experts to get your questions answered and will also offer workshops on a range of technical topics. The national NSP2 conference will be held in Washington, DC and is designed to assist grantees to implement this new grant.

OBGA also invites grantees to attend the following CDBG courses: Basically CDBG; Basically CDBG for States; By the Numbers: Financial Management for CDBG Grantees; Cross Cutting Federal Requirements; and Effective Management of Subrecipients. These workshops will provide practical information about how to implement and administer CDBG-assisted programs.

OAHP offers two types of national training workshops under the CPD Institute. First, PJ staff are invited to attend the HOME Certified Specialist Program–a nationwide initiative designed to recognize outstanding HOME Program expertise. Under this initiative, experienced PJ staff can attend an overview training course and then take an exam on HOME regulations basics, HOME program administration or on rental program compliance. Attendees who pass the exam will be designated by HUD as a HOME Certified Program Specialist.

OAHP is also pleased to continue its National Demand-Response Training Delivery system, which offers workshops on topics requested by local HUD Field Offices. All classes will be listed on this website and a PJ or eligible nonprofit can register for a variety of classes nationwide.

In a field as dynamic as community planning and development, continued education is critical. We hope that you have occasion to attend our workshops and that you visit this site frequently to stay informed of new seminars and new course dates and locations.
